Maria is involved as a teacher both in Bachelor and (pre)Master programs. She teaches within several courses of the BSc Biomedical Sciences (Biomedische wetenschappen – Universiteit Utrecht (uu.nl)), the PreMSc Clinical Health Sciences (Opleiding Klinische gezondheidswetenschappen – UMC Utrecht), the MSc Medicine (Faculteit Geneeskunde – UMC Utrecht – Universiteit Utrecht (uu.nl)), the MSc Epidemiology (MSc Epidemiology (msc-epidemiology.nl) and the MSc Methods and Statistics in the Behavioural, Biomedical, and Social Sciences (Master MSBBSS – Methoden & Statistiek – Universiteit Utrecht (uu.nl)). She also contributes to the extracurricular course “Biostatistics for Researchers” and in the summer school courses Biostatistics for Researchers and Survival Analysis. Besides enjoying all the teaching, Maria works as a biostatistical consultant for the Animal Welfare Body Utrecht (Animal Welfare Body Utrecht (ivd-utrecht.nl)) and is manager of the group of biostatistical teachers.

Maria studied Biology at Utrecht University, followed by a PhD at the faculty of Mathematical and Natural Sciences of Leiden University and a Master in Biostatistics at the University of Limburg, Hasselt, Belgium. She worked as a biostatistician at the Biology Department of Utrecht University from 1997 until 2008. From 2009 until 2018 she worked at a research and consultancy agency, focusing on research within health care. Particularly missing teaching, she returned to academics in 2019 at the UMC Utrecht. Being a mother, she spends most of her free time with her family. She loves working in her grocery garden and relaxes the most when she walks her dogs in the forest nearby her house.
